Georgia had US backing from day 1 – they wouldn’t dare to attack South Osetia/Russia just by themselves without first getting an OK from US. Now US has sent their navi fleet to ship “humanitarian” aid to Georgia – http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=a6O1OFgv12Yw&refer=home not to mention to re-direction of troop from Iraq to Georgia during the conflict.
